Our Teachers

TIFFANY BUTLER is a graduate of Point Park College in Pittsburgh, PA where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Dance Performance and Choreography. She received a second degree in Dance Pedagogy. She has also studied at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center. As a graduate of the Baltimore School for the Arts, Miss Butler studied with Sylvester Campbell, Hinton Battle, Sandra Fortune Green, and Sandy Lacey. While at Point Park College Miss Butler choreographed several dances and performed at the Pittsburgh Playhouse under the direction of Ron Hudson, Judith Leif Bentz, and Doug Bentz. She performed at the International Association of Blacks in Dance Conference in 2003, 2004, and 2005. Her awards and honors include The Don Brockett Memorial Scholarship Award and she appeared in the web advertisement for United Airlines. Miss Butler teaches at the Community College of Baltimore County Essex and is a member of the Stephanie Powell DanseEnsemble.

TORENS JOHNSON is a graduate of Towson University where he received a degree in dance performance. He is a graduate of the Governors’ Magnet School of the Performing Arts in Norfolk, VA where he was a dance major. Mr. Johnson studied at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center in New York City. After attending the school for two years, he was asked to become a member of the Alvin Ailey Repertory Ensemble also known as Ailey II. He has served as the artist is residence for the Kansas City Friends of Alvin Ailey and is co-director of the Summer AileyCamp. Mr. Johnson is a member of Stephanie Powell DanseEnsemble and has performed with Clancyworks Dance Theater, DanceSmith, Tony Powell Music & Movement and Edgeworks Dance Theater. Currently he is a Co -Creative Arts Director and Dance Instructor at Beth Tfiloh Community Dahan School. He is also an instructor with Towson University’s Children’s Dance Division.

YULANDA LEACH is a graduate of Towson University where she majored in Dance Performance and Education. She is a graduate of the Carver Center for the Arts and Technology where studied theater and dance. While at Carver Miss Leach appeared in several dance and theater productions. Her future aspirations include graduate school and teaching dance therapy to children. She is a member of the Stephanie Powell DanseEnsemble. She is on the dance faculty at Loch Raven High School.

CHARMAINE WALKER attended Towson University. She is a graduate of the Baltimore School for The Arts where she was a featured dancer in the annual Nutcracker Ballet, Expressions, and Spring Fever. She also studied at the Alvin Ailey Summer Intensive. As a graduate of the Baltimore School for the Arts she trained under Stephanie Powell, Anton Wilson, Hinton Battle, and John Clifford.
